These pharmacy school graduation announcements were designed with love and wit for my younger brother, Brad. I chose slightly brighter versions of the University of Tennessee colors, and made envelope liners out of Brad's class notes. I hand-lettered the 'Pharmitzvah' type to be reminiscent of antique medicine labels.
I was design project manager, art director, and production designer for the rebrand of NPR's Oddly Informative News Quiz, Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!
The rebrand went live in September 2013, replacing the original 1998 look. You can read about the process in a NPR blog post I wrote here. Armin Vit for Under Consideration’s Brand New said it had 'spirit'. I like to think my passion for what I do always shines through.
I love type. “Seize the clay” was done for District Clay Center. All others were just for fun, and originally made as heat embossed cards.
The NPR Calendar
Year after year, this project was one of my favorites. I had my hand in all aspects of it, from art direction, to layout and design, to project management.
Each annual NPR Calendar featured thirteen images created for NPR by talented artists who are also loyal listeners. With their creations, the artists answered the question, “What does NPR mean to you?” This truly made it a calendar by the listener, for the listener.
Artists from over the years that I was lucky enough to work with on this project include Jessica Hische, Josh Cochran, Rich Tu, Chris Buzelli, Jing Wei, and The Heads of State--amongst so many other talents.

The Movember graphic is a collection of the past U.S. Presidents with facial hair, along with 'manly' facts as researched by my small Nobody Media team and me (and confirmed by the WHHA Historians!). The design itself is play off of vintage presidential campaign posters.
The WHHA's partnership with the Washington Nationals Baseball team, and their newest 'Racing President' Calvin Coolidge, led us to create the 'Coolidge & Baseball' infographic and video. For this project, the team and I did extensive research on 1920's baseball, as well as Calvin and Grace Coolidge's love of the sport.
I made the video using After Effects.

I was given the pleasure of paying homage to one of NPR's founding mothers, Susan Stamberg, by illustrating her in the style of pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. Printed on the public radio essential canvas tote bag. For authenticity's sake, I drew the ben-day dots one by one.
Each December NPR holds creatively-themed holiday festivities for its employees and their families. The 2011 party was themed around the quintessential English pub, which we appropriately named 'The Tuned Inn'. I completed the look with a public radio coat of arms, pub glasses and coasters, all featuring NPR's unofficial mascot, Nipper the dog. I was lead designer and also wrote pieces of the copy for the project.
From tote bags to snack bags to Carl Kasell's face on a pillow, these are some of the items I've designed for the NPR Shop.
This NPR Valentine’s Day tradition started in 2011 to allow listeners share their love of public radio. I was lead designer, project manager, and sometime copywriter for this project.
These cards have been widely shared through social media, and made the Coyne PR HotSheet list in February 2011.
Weekend in Washington
NPR’s annual Weekend in Washington consists of a series of events, bringing together NPR's Board Members, trustees, donors, and Member Station General Managers for a behind-the-scenes look at NPR.
From 2008 to 2014, I was lead designer for the look and feel of the Weekend in Washington. 2012 was, of course, a U.S. Presidential Election year, and my design was a nod to that fact. I chose to feature elegant photography with foil stamping. Collateral for the 2012 event included a save the date postcard, invitation and a program.
NPR Election Buttons
As an intern in the summer of 2008, I designed buttons promoting NPR's coverage of the US Presidential Election campaign. Four years later, as a staff member, I was given the same project for the 2012 Elections. Both years' buttons were wildly popular and coveted by the public. I love seeing the transformation of this project.

The 2008 NPR Election Buttons won a Silver Addy from the DC Ad Club (2009)
NPR Holiday Cards
Each year NPR creates holiday cards for its employees to share. I was lead designer of the 2009 and 2011 cards.
My 2009 holiday cards included three designs to choose from: birds, bunnies, and squirrels, who are all sharing NPR through its various formats.
AWARDS The 2009 Holiday Cards won a Gold DC Addy Award from the DC Ad Club (2010), a Print Regional Magazine Award (2010), and a HOW InHowse Magazine Award (2010)
The 2011 Holiday Cards won a Gold DC Addy Award from the DC Ad Club (2012)
From time to time I worked on projects for NPR Music.
My illustration of the record player that sits on the desk of NPR Music's All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen was screen printed onto this classic diner mug. The mug was a limited edition give-away at live broadcasts.
I created the poster for one of NPR Music's live events in New York City. I was tasked to create the feel for this event which brought together diverse genres of music.
With basic photography skills, I've taken everything from product photography for the NPR Shop and blog posts, to headshots, to food photos for Nando's PERi-PERi for both social posts and restaurant aboards.
The photos for Nando's are ones with concepts I conceived, as well as art directed and photographed with the help of talented food stylist Nicola Davis. With her assistance, this has become a truly enjoyable part of my work.
